A Staffordshire saltglaze teapot painted in vibrant famille rose enamels with a Jacobite image of a man plucking a bud from a rose bush, a full flower behind him, the reverse with a similar image but of an Oriental with a peony bush, the cover with the Jacobite motif.
H: 8", 20 cm
c. 1760

The full Tudor rose represents the Old Pretender, James Francis Edward Stuart, the son of the deposed English king James II, while the bud represents the Young Pretender, Charles Edward Stuart, popularly called Bonnie Prince Charlie.
